Wanted: A New Fandom
I'll admit that I really only opened this journal in order to view

corkart, and to occasionally comment on the delectable treats over at

daily_deviant. I've had it for 4 years now and have yet to update, which is pretty pathetic. So here it is: I am updating. Most of you here also know me on LiveJournal, so there really isn't a need for introductions. I hope to be around more, but as my Muse has been on what appears to be an extended vacation probably sipping Mai Tais on a tropical beach somewhere, I don't know how often that will happen. But we shall see...

With the regrettable but inevitable "end" of Harry Potter canon (although in my heart it will never end), I am also 'shopping around' for another fandom. I'm dabbling in Dr. Who, although to be honest as much as I like the show, the characters, and the stories, and think Matt Smith is an absolute cutie, I am having a hard time being sucked in. It has a lot to do with the pacing, and the fact that I spend a lot of my time trying to decipher what is being said, and what is going on, so I am pulled out of the show. I need to see an episode 2-3 times in order to fully understand it. I like shows that make me think, but not so much that I don't enjoy the episode "in the moment".

What I want is something that will grab me full-on and shake me around like Harry Potter and, to some extent, the X-Files which is the only other fandom that has even come close. I consider X-Files to be my Harry Potter before Harry Potter even existed. (If that makes sense.) Mulder and Scully were my first OTP before I knew what OTP meant. I wrote a handful of fan fiction there, although it was never posted. I remember being utterly beside myself with delight when I discovered I was not the only one who liked to write fiction with Mulder & Scully. Little did I know what was out there (besides the truth, lol).

I've heard good things about "Game of Thrones" from several people, including

luvscharlie, whose opinion is as good as gold to me, but I've also heard that in order to get the full experience of it, you really should watch the cable series too. Right now, with my finances the way they are (and the fact that I just dropped nearly $600 in unexpected auto expenses) I just can't afford to add a premium channel to my cable bill. So I am biding my time until the show reaches Netflix.

I have read and thoroughly enjoyed the "Hunger Games" series, and am very excited about the movie. Katniss/Gale shipper to the end - although I do love Peeta. I am also a big fan of "Fringe", and superduperexciteomg about the upcoming premiere this Friday!

In the meantime, if there is anything else out there I would love to hear about it! I feel like a ship lost at sea, needing something really engaging to steer me back in the right direction. One big criteria is whether or not it would be a fandom so good it would inspire me to write fan fiction. Because so far, I have been hesitant to try anything outside of Harry Potter or X-Files (although I did consider trying something from Hunger Games, that never took off). I still have a ridiculous idea to try a *gasp* crossover HP/XF fic, but that will probably never happen as it has been bumping around my head for years already. Seriously, the idea of Luna Lovegood going head-to-head with Fox Mulder seems like tons of fun. Maybe I'll write it when I retire...IF I retire. ;)
